2000 At the turn of the millennium he is invited to take part in the exhibition Bremer Konzepte at Art Studio 1 in Deinste. Meanwhile, four of his works mysteriously disappear following the exhibition Die Dunkelkammer at Galerie Eberhard Lüdke in Cologne, and he publishes a slim volume entitled Der Sog to accompany his solo show at Galerie im Winter. In spring he happens to meet Wolfgang Hainke, who invites him to participate in an unusual exhibition project. During the preparatory and production phases of this project he assumes curatorial tasks and oversees the installation of the exhibition. S M L XL XXL / A Boulevard of Broken Dreams opens in summer 2000 at the Städtische Galerie im Buntentor in Bremen. Over the following years Hainke and Müller work on expanding upon the theme of the exhibition and exposing it to the harsh light of other people’s intellectual scrutiny with the aim of presenting the results in a variety of print media. Visions & Re-Visions on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams, an expansive publication containing texts by Horst Bredekamp, Diedrich Diederichsen, Andreas Kreul, Malcolm McLaren, Klaus Theweleit and Emmett Williams, among others, is published in autumn 2006.
2002 As a fellow at the Villa Massimo in Rome, he spends the winter months above the clouds in Olevano Romano. He explores the city of Rome and the surrounding area, using the remaining time to prepare a publication on the subject of the fleeting moment; it highlights those carefree moments in perception which prevail against any kind of secured past. The book Observations Croquis is published in summer 2004 to accompany the exhibition Der überschaubare Gegenstand at the Kunstverein Ruhr in Essen. In the winter months he travels to Asia. He heads south down the west coast of Sri Lanka with the intention of spending some time by the sea near the equator, however the terrible beauty of the ›sad tropics‹ prompts him to move on.
